January, 1, 2016 : "Experimental determination and theoretical framework of kinetic fractionation at the water vapour – ice interface at low temperature
Climate reconstruction from ice cores rely on good knowledge of equilibrium and kinetic isotopic fractionation at each step of the water cycle. One of the strongest limitations when interpreting water isotopes in remote Antarctic ice cores is the formulation of the isotopic fractionation at solid condensation (vapour to ice). The uncertainties associated with the coefficients for equilibrium fractionation and water vapour diffusion in air make the formulation of isotopic fractionation at solid condensation only empirical.
Here, using (1) recent development in the measurements of water isotopes in the water vapour through infra-red spectroscopy and (2) the possibility to measure accurately 17O-excess of water, we test the classical formulation and parameterization of isotopic fractionation at solid condensation. The spatial variability of water vapour isotopic composition differs from classical formulation from Jouzel and Merlivat (1984, figure b) but can be relatively well reproduced by the resolution of diffusion toward a cold plate. In addition, our experiments highlight the impact of kinetic fractionation at condensation on 17O-excess for the first time. This preliminary study opens new perspectives to revisit the classical formulation of water isotopic fractionation during solid condensation at very low temperature.

March, 17, 2015 : More than 10 hours of efficient OH oxidation
A paper recently published in ACP is presenting the use of an innovative protocol to sustain significant OH concentration in the CESAM chamber to fully oxidized isoprene and lead to the formation of SOA. Atmospheric oxidation is a truly multi- step processes : it can take hours or days, to get to a level of oxidation which suffi- ciently high to have the formation of low volatility products. This is especially true for small molecules for which secondary oxidation poducts are often volatile. In simulation chamber, several protocol to generate OH exists but they often leads to a “burst of OH” at the beginning of the experiment that is often followed by a quick decay of the OH concentration due to the accumulation of NO2. In this paper, we have applied a novel protocol that keep high OH level for hours to the chemistry of isoprene and methacrolein and hence studied under realistic condition their oxide- tion mechanism and their ability to form SOA.

September, 2, 2014 : Dust storm in CESAM !
A protocol designed at LISA to generate very realistic mineral dust aerosol from soil vibration has been applied to the CESAM chamber. This transdisciplinary bridge has allowed to produced very realistic infrared spectra of aerosol originating from three desert area of the world. These data are extremely useful for both radiative transfer calculation (climate modelling) as well as for satellite retrieval of ozone and dust loading. This open a totally new field for experiment atmospheric simulation and more is to come at CESAM on this subject.

September, 13, 2013 : Delivery and operation of the new PTR-ToF-MS at CESAM
The new Proton Transfer Reaction – Time of Flight Mass Spectrometer (PTR-ToF-MS) has been installed at CESAM. Funded by the Conseil Régional d’Ile de France (throught the R2DS organization) and made by the Kore company Ltd, this instrument of very high technology will come to enlarge the list of the base instruments at CESAM. In particular, it will enable us to monitor very small quantities (sub ppb level) of volatile organic compounds with such a high resolution that the “exact mass” analysis will be possible for unknown Species. A much better characterization of the reactive gas phase in CESAM and even more realistic experiments (lower concentrations) are expected from this new instruments.
